From Real Estate to Retail
From a small warehouse and the back of a van, Charlotte Raisbeck made a dream come true almost 40 years ago. Today, her twin sons, Mark and Tim, carry on her dream, which was to create a full service tack store for the equestrian enthusiast.
After settling in Houston, Charlotte opened her first store in July of 1977 with Mark and Tim joining her soon after. In the early days, the store was stocked with only English tack and supplies. Because Charlotte had grown up riding and competing in the English discipline, it was only natural that she stuck to what she knew best.
Like any entrepreneur, she worked from the bottom up, traveling from horse show to horse show on the weekends. Charlotte quickly developed a sharp business sense for the equestrian market in Houston and within a year of starting up, she needed more space. In 1978 she moved her store to a larger location. After gathering a loyal following from Houston and surrounding communities, Charlotte opened her second store in Tomball, Texas, in 1984. Ten years later it was time to once again expand. In 1994, the store extended its product lines to include Western saddles, tack and equipment. By the year 2000, Charlotte’s was online, serving equestrians all over Texas, the US and borders beyond, including regular customers from as far away as the Middle East, Europe and South America.
The most recent expansion was opening the third store in Austin, Texas, in December of 2014. Charlotte’s continues to grow and prosper by providing quality products at exceptional values with superior customer service.
