The port, although narrow and somewhat low, allows room for the horse’s tongue to pass under the bit. When the reins are engaged and the mouthpiece rotates onto the tongue, it applies two concentrated points of pressure on the tongue for quick control.
The seven-style shank prevents the horse from lipping the bit. This mouthpiece is a straight bar hinged on a center roller, encouraging lateral collection and lift. The sweet iron mouthpiece keeps the horses mouth moist.
